Same principles – different mood

Same principles - different mood

Continuing our conversation about portraits, here is an example of using the same four principles but catching a very different moment and mood. As with the Bhutanese woman standing at her kitchen window, this image of a little boy playing in the sand is successful because: 1) the subject is adorable (my son) 2) the conditions are good ( no wind, happy child) 3) nice light and 4) good background (sand).  Whereas the portrait of the woman at window is pensive and quiet, and the portrait of boy is playful, both are successful because all four basic photographic requirements were met and finally the mood of the moment was captured.
